Meidad Goldman, M.D.
Dr. Meidad Goldman obtained his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He is board-certified in both Emergency Medicine and Addiction Medicine. Dr. Goldman trained at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and then worked as an attending physician at the UPMC Shadyside teaching hospital.
He relocated to Asheville in 2010 to accept the position of Medical Director and Department Chair of the Emergency Department at Haywood Regional Medical Center, where he worked in both administrative and clinical capacities. In 2017, he chose to follow his passion for patient-centered care and dedicate himself to his private practice.
Dr. Goldman has over 15 years of experience using Ketamine for multiple conditions and serves as Medical Director for our Asheville Ketamine Clinic. He has also completed training in Psychedelic Medicine through MAPS and CIIS.
He lives in Asheville with his wife, Signi, and their three children.
Signi Goldman, M.D.
Dr. Signi Goldman is board certified in General Adult Psychiatry. She has practiced in multiple clinical settings, both in hospital systems and alternative treatment centers, and integrates these approaches into an individualized, evidence-based practice.
Dr. Goldman graduated from University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and completed residency training at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she was selected for an administrative Chief Residency position.
After relocating to Asheville, she ran an outpatient General Psychiatry practice before opening her concierge practice in 2016. Dr. Goldman treats adults with all forms of mental health symptoms. She is a graduate of Psychedelic Medicine training through both MAPS and CIIS. Her extensive knowledge of research-based use of psychedelics in medicine informs our Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy program for Mental Health.
Ann Lentini, M.D.
Dr. J. Ann Lentini was born and raised in the Asheville area. She obtained her B.S. in Psychology at Furman University and completed medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Dr. Lentini did residency training in General Medicine and her Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Residency at the Medical College of Ohio. She then participated in supplemental psychodynamic psychotherapy training in Ann Arbor and has worked as a psychotherapist and a certified coach.
She is experienced in Cognitive & Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused & Supportive Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Play Therapy, Interactive Meditation and Computer-aided Biofeedback, Animal-Assisted Experiential Learning, and Wellness & Health Consultation. Dr. Lentini has a background in lab work and research and is published in multiple peer-reviewed journals in the areas of Interactive Biofeedback, Animal Assisted Therapy, Child Development Issues, and Neuroscience.
Thabit Al-Khateeb, M.D.
Dr. Al-Khateeb is board-certified in General Adult Psychiatry. He completed his psychiatric residency training at Harlem Hospital Center, affiliated with Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. There, he served in an administrative chief resident role, a position that requires both teaching and responsibility for providing clinical performance supervision to resident trainees. During his training, he received recognition from the American Psychiatric Association for engagement and performance in Resident Physician programming.
Prior to his position at Harlem Hospital, Dr. Al-Khateeb also trained at East Tennessee State University, where he was a research assistant in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He is the author of both research articles and book chapters.
Dr. Al-Khateeb obtained his medical degree from Mu’tah University in Karak, Jordan, and underwent medical training in both Jordan and the University of Florida. He is board-certifie through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a licensed provider in Georgia and North Carolina.
Dr. Al-Khateeb moved to Asheville in 2023 to begin his outpatient psychiatry practice with Concierge Medicine and Psychiatry and welcomes new patients. He is experienced working with adult patients of diverse ages and backgrounds in outpatient settings and is well‐versed in the use of telepsychiatry technologies, including video conferencing and secure messaging. He enjoys building strong, trust‐based relationships with patients and is passionate about patient-centered care, along with encouraging patients to optimize their overall health and well-being through adopting and implementing healthy lifestyle interventions. He is dedicated to ongoing education and incorporating the latest developments in the field of Psychiatry into his practice.
Rosemary Shanahan, PMHNP-BC
Rose is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 30 years of diverse nursing experience. Originally from Ohio, she embarked on her nursing journey at St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, earning her nursing degree. As a BSN, Rose has worked across various healthcare settings, from intensive care to palliative care to college health before revisiting her passion for mental health care.
She earned her master’s degree as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, NY and recently relocated to the Asheville area. Since receiving her nurse practitioner degree, she has experience with both adolescents and adults in general psychiatry, substance abuse, and eating disorders.
Beyond traditional psychiatric approaches, Rose was drawn to integrative psychiatry, seeking alternative methods to help individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma. This journey led her to complete fellowships in integrative psychiatry and sparked an interest in psychedelic-assisted therapies.
Rose firmly believes in empowering individuals to become their own best healers, providing them with the necessary tools to access their inner healing selves with compassion and confidence. She places a strong emphasis on the healing power of nature and connectedness, recognizing these elements as integral components of mental well-being.
In her free time, Rose finds joy in the company of her husband, sons, and their families, alongside their dog and two cats. Her favorite activities outside of time with her loved ones are hiking or practicing yoga.
Sandra Newes, Ph.D.
Dr. Sandra Newes, aka Sandy, is a Licensed Psychologist with over 25 years of clinical experience. She is a highly experienced psychedelic-assisted psychotherapist and specializes in anxiety, chronic stress, trauma, and recovery. She has provided Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy through Concierge Medicine and Psychiatry since 2019 and brings a deeply trauma informed and resiliency focused approach to the work. She was originally certified through the Living Medicine Institute’s Certificate program, and she is the co-founder of the current training program. She has also participated in training through the Polaris Institute, Chacruna Institute, the PRATI Institute, MAPS, and others and is a member of the Boston Psychedelic Research Group.
Dr. Newes participates in speaking engagements, publications, training workshops, and educational training on the intersection of nature connection, trauma, and mental health nationally and internationally. She is the past Chair of the Therapeutic Adventure Professional Group (TAPG) of the Association for Experiential Education (AEE) and also offers training to staff at therapeutic and experiential programs. She also studies earth-based medicine traditions, ancestral medicine, and rites of passage, and has a deep appreciation for how ceremony and ritual, nature connection, and ancient wisdom traditions support healing.
Dave MacDonald, MSW, LCSW
Dave is a trained provider of Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy using Ketamine through the Living Medicine Institute’s Certificate Program. He is a therapist in private practice in Asheville, NC, and holds a BA Degree in Philosophy, an MSW Degree, and a Certificate in Artistic Blacksmithing. His clinical background is grounded in Psychoanalytic Oriented Psychodynamic Psychotherapy with complementary training in body-oriented models of psychotherapy and trauma processing. Before earning his MSW, Dave spent years as a Certified Addiction Counselor and has a strong understanding of addictions and their relationship to trauma.
He has focused most of his 35+ year clinical career on treating Traumatic Stress in adults. He is a Certified Consultant in EMDR and has advanced training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and HeartMath BioFeedback. His passion for learning drew him to study Attachment, Structural Dissociation, and Polyvagal Theories, which inform his work. In 2019, he began formal training through MAPS to provide MDMA Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy for Complex PTSD. While awaiting FDA approval to use MDMA and other psychedelics for psychotherapy, Dave has acquired skills to provide Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy through the Living Medicine Institute’s Certificate Program and taken Ketamine/ Psychedelic training from Polaris Institute, Center for Self Leadership, EMDR International Association, and other providers. Finally, Dave is a mycophile, synthesizer lover, and Artist Blacksmith. He loves creating music to facilitate trauma processing, and he forges psychologically themed metal sculpture which speaks of trauma and healing.
Erika Czerwiski, Ph.D.
aDr. Czerwinski is a Licensed Psychologist with extensive training in depth-oriented psychotherapy, attachment theory, neuro-psychoanalysis, and trauma theory. She is certified in Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy through the Living Medicine Institute’s Certificate Program and has been facilitating Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy since 2019. With over 18 years of clinical practice supporting adolescents, adults, couples, and groups, and 15 years of combined experience in wisdom-based traditions, rites of passage ceremonies, and yogic philosophies and meditation, Dr. Czerwinski brings a unique approach to her Ketamine Assisted Therapy practice. Honoring the relational and sacred process of the work, Dr. Czerwinski creates space for the work to ripen and root. She is the founder of Katabasis, and presently is developing a model for Ketamine Group Therapy.
Dr. Czerwinski is on the board of Western North Carolina Psychologists Association and provides educational training on Ketamine Assisted Therapy to practitioners and psychotherapists. She has a special interest in working with young adults who have experienced trauma and is the KAP provider for Asheville residential trauma centers.
Derek Rinaldo MA, LCMHC, LCAS-A
Derek Rinaldo is a Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapist and experienced counselor in private practice. Derek holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir Rhyne University. He is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist in North Carolina. Derek is a trained provider of Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy using Ketamine through the Living Medicine Institute’s Certificate Program.
Derek is also an experienced practitioner and provider of various styles of Breathwork and incorporates these skills in working with individuals and groups as well as an augmentation to psychedelic psychotherapy treatment.
For 15 years, prior to his graduate and professional counseling work, he worked with adults, children, and families in community mental health agencies and private schools.
Derek has traveled extensively globally, living abroad in countries such as India and Australia. In addition to Breathwork, his areas of clinical expertise include end-of-life anxiety, addictions, trauma, sexual assault, domestic violence, family separations, general anxiety, and depression. He believes in meeting clients just where they are, through a felt sense of authenticity and empathy for their struggles and joys, their challenges, and their strengths.
Yael Baldwin, PhD
Dr. Yael Baldwin is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Asheville, NC, and a graduate of the Living Medicine Institute’s certificate program in psychedelic psychotherapy as well as the Integrative Psychiatry Institute. She specializes in psychodynamic and existential approaches to enhancing our relationships (to self, others, and the world) while working through trauma, loss, and life transitions and is also a psychedelic-assisted therapist currently offering Ketamine-assisted therapy.
Yael is also a Professor Emerita from Mars Hill University where she was the chair and professor of clinical psychology for almost twenty years. She has been researching, writing, teaching, and practicing a variety of mental health treatments, from psychoanalysis to meditation and psychedelics, for over two decades. Dr. Baldwin is on the board of the Western North Carolina Psychologists Association and is an international author and speaker. Her life’s work focuses on how we can all suffer less and flourish more, together.
Sara Bensman, MA, LCHMCA
Sara Bensman, MA, LCHMA is a trained provider of Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy through the Living Medicine Institute’s Certificate Program. She is a practicing psychotherapist in Asheville, NC. She brings a curiosity about holding multiple truths simultaneously, an honoring of death, an attention to the whispers of the body, a love of story, and an ongoing quest to uncover the most authentic Self. Sara believes that most of us, at some point, feel disappointed with life. Maybe we expected it to be more. More joy. More peace. More connection with others. More meaning. We’re not looking for perfection, but is this all there is? You may label this feeling as grief, anxiety, loneliness, depression or addiction, or you may be unable to give it a name. It may surface in you individually, or in your relationships. She believes that this nagging sense of discontent serves as a wake-up call, and it deserves attention. She uses Internal Family Systems, narrative, somatic, and psychoanalytic approaches. For clients wanting deeper work on trauma, Sara offers Psychedelic Somatic Integrative Psychotherapy (PSIP).
Elizabeth Graves, PhD
Elizabeth Graves, Ph.D., LCMHC-S, is a trained provider of Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy through the Living Medicine Institute’s Certificate Program. She is a practicing psychotherapist in Asheville, NC, where she specializes in working with people who have life-threatening illnesses, terminal illnesses, or clients suffering complicated bereavement, grief, and loss. She previously served ten years as a faculty professor at Appalachian State University and Western Carolina University, engaged in research and training of clinical mental health counselors while maintaining her private practice, Caledonia Counseling & Consulting. Before to this, she spent 10 years working with children and adolescents in rural Appalachian schools, 5 years as a child/adolescent/family therapist in psychiatric hospitals, crisis mental health assessment specialist in the emergency department, and as a therapist in a community mental health center for adjudicated adolescents. Currently, she works as a spiritual director (C.S.D., Sursum Corda/Shalem, 2006), LCMHC supervisor (2010), Yoga Teacher (2013), and MINT Member Motivational Interviewing trainer (2014). She graduated from The Conscious Dying Institute’s Sacred Passage Doula Program in 2020 and finds the work of companioning those in the dying process over the threshold of life the most sacred work she does. Elizabeth’s loves include kids, canines, and the woods.
Will Hamilton, PhD
Will Hamilton, Ph.D. is a Clinical Neuropsychologist practicing for over a decade in Asheville NC. He primarily provides Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Internal Family Systems to those struggling with chronic medical conditions and trauma. He also strongly emphasizes compassion training and self-regulation through polyvagal interventions. He has been offering psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy since 2019 and is certified through The Living Medicine Institute’s Certificate Program to offer psychotherapy with ketamine. He has also trained in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy through the Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) as well as Fungi Academy’s Sacred Space Holder Program in the facilitation of group experiences with psychedelic medicine.
As a long-term yogi of over 25 years, Will has studied qi gong, breathwork, yoga, Pragmatic Buddhism, Zen, Tibetan essence traditions, and Western esoteric systems. As a teacher at Buddhist Geeks and Asheville Yoga Center, he offers workshops related to Meditation and Neuroscience, Chronic Pain Management, and Yoga for Hypermobile Bodies. He is also developing the Ketamine Assisted Mindfulness Program (KAMP) in a retreat setting to help maximize ketamine’s therapeutic impact while using other therapeutic modalities. He has a special interest in helping long-term contemplative practitioners towards direct experiences of awakening and the integration of those experiences, helping train the open-hearted embrace of the Self through the door of compassion, and reducing the fear of death by the conscious practice of dying with the assistance of psychedelics. He believes the sense of being at home is available in all circumstances, and you can sometimes catch him feeling at home playing music, exploring nature, or on one of his many travel adventures.
Jennifer Beeghly, Psy.D
Jennifer Beeghly, Psy.D, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in North Carolina, Tennessee, and is also provides telepsychological services and temporary in-person psychological services via the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT). Dr. Beeghly completed an APA-accredited internship at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner Veterans Affairs Medical Center (Hefner VAMC) in Salisbury, NC, and her post-doctoral training at the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System in Murfreesboro and Nashville, TN. She was previously employed by the VAMC and has been serving Veterans and their families for 14 years. In addition to serving Veterans and their families, she has served as a combat medic in Iraq.
She is a trained provider of Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy using Ketamine through the Living Medicine Institute’s Certificate Program. She has completed the Basic Certification in Clinical Hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH). She uses hypnosis to treat psychological and medical conditions, including smoking cessation, weight loss, irritable bowel syndrome, and anxiety.
She has also obtained certifications in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP), Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT), and Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality-Individual and Group Model.
